obit Skipper

Ms. Nancy Jo Skipper won her battle over her earthly pain on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia and was called home to be with the angels above.  She was 68 years old at the time of her passing.

Nancy was born in the mountains of North Carolina but was adopted when she was around 6 years old to Chester and Helen Ann Rouse of Rose Hill, North Carolina.  She was a “Daddy’s girl” her entire life.  She always saw Chester as a man who “hung the moon”!  She had several brothers and sisters, Ronnie, Terry, Linda, Kathy and Judy, some of which have already passed away before her.  At 16 years old, she left her home in North Carolina, on her own, and wound up getting stuck in Fort Valley, Georgia, where she met her future husband, and it was there they had one daughter, Silver April Johnson.  She worked hard all of her life to take care of her family, and did without, as a mother will do, to see that they had the things they needed.  After a freak accident in Fort Valley left Ms. Skipper disabled, she moved to Vidalia with her daughter, her late son-in-law Wally Ford, and youngest grandson Leland, where they took care of her in their home.  She rarely complained and was happy to be around family that loved her.  She didn’t have much, but she did have a huge heart with lots of love for her child, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, as well as a love of reading, writing, Barbie’s, tea sets, anything miniature, and irises!  She was a speed reader, reading a hard back a night, and could tell in great detail everything she had read. Her daughter had trouble finding her books that she hadn’t already read.  To get her grandson Leland to enjoy reading, she started a “book club” with him so that he could explain what he had read about animals each day.  They loved playing cards and Yahtzee as well, until he moved to Macon a couple years ago.  She was always very proud of her four grandchildren, Mark, Kayla, Nick, and Leland, as well as her great-grandchildren, even the ones she hadn’t yet met, Hinata, Scarlet, Nova Grace, Benton, and the great-granddaughter she had coming in a few months.  Nancy had a great heart, once giving her entire Barbie collection, still in the original boxes, to children in need.  She just wanted to make children happy and to be around those she loved.  She will forever and always be in the heart of her daughter, who hopes daily she made her mother proud.

There are no services at this time.

Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home of Vidalia, Georgia is in charge of arrangements.
