obit Sowell

Mrs. Connie Thigpen Sowell, age 79, of Vidalia, died Monday, April 22, 2024, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia.  She was a native of Montgomery County, growing up in Uvalda and living in Toombs County most of her life.  She was a 1962 graduate of Montgomery County High School.  Earlier in her life, she worked at Altamaha Bank & Trust in Uvalda, later at Toombs County Department of Family Children’s Services for many years, and currently at Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home.  Connie enjoyed visiting all community churches, including South Thompson Baptist Church and Cedar Crossing Baptist Church where she was a member of the Dixie Dumplings.  She enjoyed gospel sings, baking cupcakes, taking food to shut-ins, and spending time with family and friends.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Sowell; granddaughter, Carmen Rodgers; parents, Green Thigpen and Grace Graham Thigpen; one brother, Franklin Thigpen; and sister, Joyce Thigpen McNeal.

Her family includes one daughter, Jill S. Rodgers and husband Ryan of Uvalda; one son, Dan Sowell and wife Stephanie of Oklahoma; two sisters, Shelby Thigpen Donaldson and Loretta Thigpen Truett and husband Charles, all of Uvalda; four grandchildren, Neal Rodgers and wife Amy, Kaline Sowell, Ana Sowell, and Zoey Sowell; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be Thursday morning, April 25th, at 11:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor BL Horne officiating.  Burial will follow at Uvalda City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 9:30 until just prior to the service.
