obit Meeks

Mrs. Grace Parrish Meeks, age 90 of Soperton, Georgia passed away on Wednesday evening, April 17, 2024 at Langdale Hospice House in Valdosta, Georgia.

Born in Treutlen, Georgia, she was the second of four girls born to the late Aubrey Talton Parrish and Mary Lucille McLendon Parrish.  She grew up in the Midway Church Community and in 1950 married a longtime neighborhood friend Douglas Meeks.  They moved to Fitzgerald with her husband’s employment with the railroad where they remained until returning to Soperton in 2012.  She and her husband were never happier than when they could return to their roots in Treutlen County.  Wherever she might have lived, she always yearned for and knew where home was.

Mrs. Meeks had been a longtime member of Trinity Assembly of God.

She enjoyed being out doors, tending her daylily beds, keeping the bird feeders full of bird feed, looking out over the pond, quilting with her mother, but most of all, cooking and helping others.

As her health declined, she moved to Valdosta to be near her daughter and son in law.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of sixty seven years, Douglas Meeks, who passed away in 2017, two sisters, Shelby Nobles, Laquate Parrish Harrison and a daughter in law, Lea Meeks.

Mrs. Meeks leaves behind, her daughter, Marta Meeks Walker (Randy), Valdosta, GA, two sons, Lloyd Meeks (Dee), Irwinville, GA, Heath Meeks, Wray, GA, her sister, Linda Parrish Walker (Garland), Gray, GA,  grandchildren, Kelli Walker, Cal Meeks (Charlotte), Ben Meeks, great grandchildren, Marlli Wiruscheske (Hunter), Lexi Poole (Jacob), Alexis Meeks, great great grandchildren, Reagan Brooke Wiruscheske, Crue Poole and many extended loving family members.

Funeral services were conducted at 3:00 pm on Monday from the graveside in Midway Church Cemetery, Soperton, GA as she was laid to rest beside her husband.  Officiating was, her nephew, Pastor Kerry Walker of Harmony Baptist Church in Soperton.

Serving as pallbearers were Rodney Meeks, Barry Norris, Alvin Heath, Hugh McLendon, Gilbert Posey and Phil Wilcher.

Her family received friends on Monday at Sammons Funeral Home from 2:15 until departing for the cemetery at 2:45; as well as at the graveside following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Georgia & Langdale Hospice House, 2263 Pineview Drive, Valdosta, GA  31602 or online at hospiceofsouthgeorgia.org
