obit Barnes

Mrs. Jean Colson Barnes, age 95 of Vidalia, died Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at Zebulon Park Health & Rehab in Macon, following an extended illness.  She was a native of the Smyrna Church Community in Toombs County and was a 1945 graduate of Toombs Central School.  She moved to Vidalia in 1953 and retired as supervisor from Oxford Industries in 1993, after forty-one years.  She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and began teaching Sunday school in 1956, teaching for thirty-eight years.  She was a Pink Lady at Meadows Regional Medical Center for nine years.  She enjoyed fishing at Lake Oconee, traveling, and watching airplanes.  She is preceded in death by her first husband of fifty years, Kenneth Colson, Sr. and her second husband, Troy Barnes; daughter, Linda Colson Phillips; great-grandson, Dalton Jackson; two stepchildren, Lora Gale Oglesby and Kenneth Barnes; parents, Willie Elliot Daniels and Ava Jane Hall Daniels; two sisters, Cornelia Davis and Grace DeVore; and one brother, John Allen “J.A.” Rogers. 

Her family includes three children, Ann Blaxton and husband Larry, and Debbie Robinson of Macon, and Kenneth “Kenny” Colson, Jr. of Butler; five stepchildren, Ronald Barnes, Donald Barnes, Sue Carter, Robbie Waller, and Angie Lewis; thirteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be Saturday afternoon, April 20th, at 3:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Randy McDuffie officiating.  Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 until just prior to the service.

Flowers are accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church, PO Box 160, Vidalia, GA 30475.
