obit Dickerson

Mr. Michael C. “Mike” Dickerson, age 75, of Lyons, died Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at Landmark Hospital in Savannah, following an extended illness.  He was a native of Toombs County, living in Lyons most of his life, and was a 1967 graduate of Lyons High School.  He was a veteran of Vietnam and was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, and Combat Infantry Badge.  He was a member of First Baptist Church of Lyons and was one of the teachers of the Senior Men’s Sunday School Class.  He was a Gideon since 2012, was active in the jail ministry, and was a member and past Master of Inman Creek Masonic Lodge in Johnson Corner.  He enjoyed saltwater fishing.  He is preceded in death by his parents, M.C. Dickerson and Rose Williamson Dickerson; sister, Kay Dickerson Pruitt; and brother, Richard Dickerson.

His family includes his wife, Wanda Lay Dickerson of Lyons; six children, Robyn Dickerson Kreimborg of Jacksonville, Florida, John Dickerson of England, Melissa Cowart Jenkins of Lyons, Tony Sellers of Hazlehurst, Andy Sellers of Vidalia, and Kacy Hutcheson Smith of Lyons; nine grandchildren, including Gage Smith; one great-granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside memorial service will be Friday morning, December 29th, at 11:00 at Uvalda City Cemetery with Al Manning and Danny Altman officiating, military honors will follow by the U.S. Army Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Gideons International, PO Box 156, Vidalia, GA 30475.
