Mrs. Martha Horne Newton, age 71, of Glenwood, died Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after an extended illness. She was a native of Montgomery County, grew up in Mt. Vernon and lived in Glenwood most of her life. She was a 1981 graduate of Regents Nursing School in Baxley. She was a licensed practical nurse and was dedicated to her profession for thirty years, working at Meadows Regional Medical Center, Dr. Robert Clark, Care One and Dr. J. Bhimami. She attended Glenwood Church of God. She enjoyed flower gardening, going to church, spending time with family, was a caregiver to much of her family, and she loved people. Preceding her in death were her parents, Henry Thomas Horne and Wilma Eudene Spivey Horne; and five siblings, Bobby Horne, Danny Horne, Vickey Horne Lowther, Nola Horne Dixon, and an infant sister, Barbara Ann Horne.
Her family includes her husband of forty-two years, Van Newton of Glenwood; three children, Jason Newton of Glenwood, Lisa Fowler and Alex “Bubba” Greenway of Vidalia, and Amy Sellers of Glenwood; grandchildren, Zachary, Taylar, Daniel, Jacey, “Scooter”, Connor, Kamren, John, Cheyenne, Gabriel, Kaitlyn, Amber, Dillon, Allie, Amber, and Ashley; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday morning, September 22nd, from 10:00 until just prior to the funeral service at 11:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Brian Durden officiating. Burial will follow at Glenwood City Cemetery.
