Mary Burns

Mrs. Mary Ware Burns, age 97, of Vidalia died Saturday, September 2, 2023, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia following a brief illness.  She was born November 8, 1925, in southern Laurens County to the late Luther Earl Ware and Obie Varnadoe Ware.  She moved to Montgomery County in 1927, she was a 1942 graduate of Kibbee High School, and has made Vidalia her home since 1943.  She was the owner of Old House Antiques for the forty plus years, and worked several years in the family business, Vidalia Motor Parts.  She was a charter member of the Women of the Moose Lodge #1281, and member of the First United Methodist Church of Vidalia.  Mrs. Burns was twice president of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.  She enjoyed being a vendor at arts and crafts shows, bingo, traveling, and growing plants.  Preceding her in death was her husband of seventy-two years, H.A. Burns, Jr. and five siblings, Earl Ware, Perry Ware, Maynard Ware, Sarah Frances Soles and Margaret Smith.

Her family includes three children, Earl Burns and wife Sherry, Patricia Burns, and Jimmie Burns and wife Susan, all of Vidalia; three grandchildren, Gina Burns Page of Vidalia, Rebecca Burns of Decatur, and Kathleen Burns of Atlanta; several nieces and nephews; and a dedicated team of caregivers.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.

The funeral service will be Wednesday morning, September 6th, at 11:00 at Vidalia Cornerstone Church with Reverend David Blalock officiating.  Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
