Jimmy Powell

Mr. Jimmie Powell, age 74, of Vidalia, died Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at Community Hospice House in Vidalia after an extended illness. He was a native of Cobbtown, living most of his life in Vidalia and was graduate of Collins High School Class of 1966. Jimmie served his country by joining the United States Army, serving in Vietnam, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Sharpshooter with M-14 badge, Expert with M-16 badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and two Overseas Bars. He was employed with Thomas and Betts working as a planter/scheduler for many years. Jimmie enjoyed working on cars, watching drag races, and NASCAR races. He especially loved spending time with his family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dean Powell and Mildred Coleman Powell.

His family includes his wife of thirty-four years, Melba Barrow Powell of Vidalia; one son, Joel Powell; one stepdaughter, Heather Williams of Vidalia; one brother, Eddie Powell of Warner Robins; and several grandchildren, cousins, and other relatives.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
