Active Shooter

TCSO Training Officer Keven Collins and Investigator Jason McCoy

Toombs County Sheriff’s Office Training Officer Kevin Collins and Investigator Jason McCoy are both certified law enforcement instructors. When training for instructors arise, Kevin and Jason attend training so that they can work together to teach and train our agency along with other law enforcement agencies. Recently, Kevin and Jason attended instructor training provided by the ALERRT program for active shooter situations. If your business, company, school, or law enforcement agency is interested in receiving this training, please call instructor Kevin Collins or Jason McCoy at (912) 526-6778.

In addition to after-action lessons learned with agencies who have been involved in active shooter situations, ALERRT has established a criminal justice research department to evaluate and enhance the overall understanding of active shooter events and assist in improving law enforcement best practices.

This class provided training in handling an active shooter situation. Additionally, they learn instructional techniques and methodology for delivering the course, force‑on‑force scenario development, safety protocols and procedures, graded participant teach‑backs, graded participant‑led force‑on‑force scenarios, remediation, video debrief, course critiques, and evaluations. After attending this training, Kevin and Jason are now certified to train law enforcement and the civilian work force about active shooter scenarios.

The ALERRT program was created in 2002 as a partnership between Texas State University and law enforcement to address the need for active shooter response training. The ALERRT program is considered the National Standard in Active Shooter Response Training by the FBI.
