DENMARK, S.C. – Lady Barons Basketball returned to action on Tuesday night with a road contest at Voorhees (S.C.), just five days separated from the last meeting between the two programs.

Brewton-Parker (5-1) secured back-to-back victories over the Tigers (2-7) in an 85-61 victory in Denmark, South Carolina.

“We had to fight hard to finish the game,” Head Coach Steve Edwards said. “We must give Voorhees credit. They played hard and they were not afraid of us tonight.” 

“We were not good defensively tonight, but we will be better moving forward,” Edwards added. “It’s always a battle on the road and we found a way to win.”

How It Happened | 1st Q 

Voorhees opened the game with the first score, claiming the lead early. 

The first quarter of the game saw both programs go back and forth on scoring trips. 

For the first few minutes of the quarter, the score was either tied or in favor of the Tigers by a possession. 

However, the Lady Barons had an answer with almost every bucket from the Tigers. 

The Lady Barons secured their first lead of the quarter at the 4:09 mark with A’Alyiah Clay converting on a pair of free throws. 

Brewton-Parker managed to close out the period with an 18-16 lead. 

Angel McRae led the way for BPC with six points and five rebounds with Drexelle Ward netting five points. 

How It Happened | 2nd Q 

BPC started to build up a heavier lead, moving to a 28-18 advantage with 8:42 on the clock. 

Voorhees answered with a 7-0 run to pull the game back to a one-possession scoreline with 6:42 left to play in the half. 

The Tigers were able to hold the Lady Barons under a double-digit lead for the remainder of the half, closing out with four points to pull the score to 38-33. 

BPC outscored VU 20-17 in the period with Sy-Marieona Williams taking charge of the Lady Barons with eight points, three steals, and two assists. 

How It Happened | 3rd Q 

Brewton-Parker returned to a double-digit advantage in the third quarter, opening the half on a 9-2 run to lead 47-35 with 6:28 remaining. 

Brewton-Parker remained in control of a double-digit cushion for most of the period, but the Tigers were able to battle back to pull the deficit under 10 points with just over three minutes remaining. 

Clay led the quarter with eight points while Cisley Copper followed with six. 

The Lady Barons utilized five huge three-pointers in the period to help keep a solid lead over the Tigers, outscoring Voorhees by seven points. 

How It Happened | 4th Q 

Brewton-Parker utilized a 23-11 fourth quarter to pull away to a commanding lead and eventually the 24-point victory. 

Williams took control of the offensive efforts for BPC, scoring 11 points in the period while going 5-for-7 from the field. 

Inside The Statistics 

Brewton-Parker shot for 48.4% (31-of-64) from the field, 50% (10-of-20) from three, and 76.5% (13-of-17) from the foul line. 

Williams produced 19 points, three steals, and three assists to lead the Lady Barons. 

Ward recorded 16 points followed by Clay with 15. 

McRae secured her fourth-straight double-double performance of the season, scoring 12 points and snagging 16 boards. 

Brewton-Parker dominated off the glass, holding a 40-15 rebound advantage. 

Other Notables 

The Lady Barons produced a total of 10 steals on the night. 

BPC created 28 points off turnovers. 

The Brewton-Parker bench was responsible for 40 points on the night.
