tomb of the unknown

Reese O'Neal, Jaley Owen, Mallie Braddy and Anna Hudson Hamilton

Heavy rains and gusty winds didn’t stop hundreds of veterans of all branches of the Armed Services from being honored last Friday at the Downtown Vidalia Association’s annual Veteran’s Luncheon. During the luncheon, four local young ladies shared their new-found appreciation of what Veterans Day really means.

Reese O’Neal, Mallie Braddy, Jaley Owen, and Anna Hudson Hamilton recently were afforded the rare and distinguished opportunity to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.

The 10th graders at Vidalia Heritage Academy were chosen based on an anonymous essay application that was judged by teachers and other staff.

All four of the young ladies concurred that the experience made them appreciate the men and women of the military and agree that visit gave them pause to reflect on the sacrifices they gave for our country.
