Virgil Allmond

Mr. Virgil Allmond, age 75, of Sebring, Florida, died Sunday, July 31, 2022, in Nashville, Tennessee after a brief illness.  He was a native of Midville, Georgia, but moved to Vidalia when he was a child.  He was a 1965 graduate of Vidalia High School, and a 1969 graduate of Georgia Southern College earning a Bachelor’s degree in Finance.  He began his career with Upjohn Pharmaceuticals in Kalamazoo, Michigan where he lived several years.  He later moved to Doraville, Georgia and retired from Pfizer after thirty-five years.  After his retirement, he and his wife traveled extensively before settling in Big Pine Key, Florida for twelve years, until their most recent move to Sebring, Florida.  He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Big Pine Key, where he sang in the choir and was one of the “go-to” persons when there was a need in the church.  He was chair of the trustees for his church, where he was very active in helping with church restoration after Hurricane Irma.  He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hiking, backpacking, boating, ham radio, and gardening; and was a volunteer with the Coast Guard Auxiliary in the Keys, and the Monroe County, Florida Sheriff’s Office.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Virgil Quitman Allmond, Sr. and Nell Mulling Allmond.

His family includes his wife, Jo Allmond of Sebring, Florida; three sons, Blaine Allmond and Jan Langston of Pompano Beach, Florida, Kirk Allmond and Laura Bretz of Vero Beach, Florida, and Chris Allmond and Natalie Niehaus of Chesterfield Township, Michigan; one brother, Royce Allmond and wife Tracy of Madison, Florida; and one grandson, Jack Allmond of York, Pennsylvania.

The funeral service will be Saturday morning, August 6th, at 11:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. Dan W. Dunn officiating.  Burial will follow at North Thompson Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
