Mrs. Mary Katherine “Kat” Kea Thompson, age 88, beloved wife of the late Reverend Roy Lee Thompson, Sr. of Johnson County, Adrian, Georgia passed away at their home on Monday afternoon, January 31, 2022.

Born in Emanuel County, she was the youngest and last living of fourteen children born to the late Nelson and Mattie Flanders Kea.  She attended grammar and high school in Adrian, Georgia, where she met Roy Thompson, and they married on December 21, 1951. After high school she attended Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tennessee.  As a Pastor’s wife, she supported him in all of his pastoral duties through seven churches and over forty years in the Tennessee District and a short time in Americus, Georgia, before receiving his final call to serve on staff as the Senior Adult Pastor at Mt. Olive Church of the Nazarene in Wrightsville. 

Mrs. Thompson was always heavily involved in the Nazarene church as a Sunday School Teacher, Missions Leader, church camps, children’s Bible quizzing, janitor, and anything else needed in the church. She was also a Cub Scout leader. 

In addition to her commitment to her husband and the church, she was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She was never happier than when the house was full of family and abuzz with conversation and activity.

In addition to her parents, husband and siblings, Mrs. Thompson is preceded in death by a son, Roy Lee Thompson, Jr.

She leaves behind her remaining children, Freida Thompson Orsbon, Nashville, TN, Bruce Thompson (Sandy), Cookeville, TN, Wanda Thompson Greene (Ricky), Nashville, TN, Tommy Thompson (Carol), High Point, NC, ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at the Mt. Olive Church of the Nazarene, 591 Mt. Olive Church Rd., Wrightsville, GA, with Pastor Jimmy Wright officiating.

Mrs. Thompson will be laid to rest beside her husband in the church cemetery, following the service.

Her family will receive friends, at the church, on Friday, from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm and on Saturday from 1:00 pm until the hour of service.
