MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – After a pair of postponements, Brewton-Parker Men’s Basketball returned to action on Monday night with a tough challenge against No. 3-ranked Talladega (Ala.) in Gillis Gym.
The Barons (1-18, 0-7 SSAC) were defeated by the highly ranked Tornadoes (15-1, 5-0 SSAC).
How It Happened
The game opened rather slow as Talladega scored first a minute into the first half. Over the course of the next four minutes, the Tornadoes outscored the Barons 9-0 to lead 11-0 in the first 15 minutes of play. Brewton-Parker managed to get on the board with a bucket from TJ Taylor to pull under double-digits.
Both teams split scoring 7-7 over the next five minutes to move the score to 18-9 in favor of Talladega. Talladega pulled away in the latter half of the period going on a 19-9 run. The Tornadoes closed out the half with a 37-18 lead.
Talladega opened the second half with a 6-0 run to lead by 25 with 15:19 left on the clock. Scores were few and far between for the next several minutes with TC outscoring BPC just 5-4 within five minutes of action, holding a 48-24 lead.
Both teams split scoring for the next few minutes at 9-9 before Talladega picked up a big three-pointer to lead 57-33 with 6:50 left on the clock. Brewton-Parker went on a 12-4 run in the next three minutes to pull the deficit down to 16 but Talladega closed the fame out with a 7-2 run to solidify the lead and capture the 68-47 win.
Inside The Statistics
- Chance Hatcher led the scoring for BPC with 15 points while Floyd Davis led the rebounding efforts with 11.
- As a team, BPC shot for just 28.3% (15-of-53) from the field, 21.1% (4-of-19) from three, and 76.5% (13-of-17) from the free-throw line.
- Talladega outrebounded the Barons 42-33.
