Former Presidential Candidate and Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee plays bass guitar during Tuesday night's fundraiser for Vidalia Heritage Academy.
Vidalia Heritage Academy observed its 25th year of existence Tuesday night with a fundraising dinner and a nonpolitical address by former Presidential candidate and Governor of Arkansas Mike Huckabee.
Huckabee, an ordained minister, swayed away from controversial subjects, and delivered a crowd-pleasing mostly personal message. But he did express his concern about the direction the country is heading.
“I get concerned when people think it’s OK to burn a police car,” he said, “I get concerned when someone can walk into a store, grab what they want and not even run; they just wave to the employees as they go out because they know no one is going to stop them or prosecute them. I get concerned when we’re told trillions of dollars will be spent on things and ‘It won’t cost; it’s all free.’ Someone has to pay.”
Huckabee mostly spoke about his family including his daughter, former Press Secretary under the Trump Administration, and now-candidate for Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders. He also gave glowing remarks about the children of Vidalia Heritage Academy, their present and future, and remarked on the importance of keep Christian schools like VHA active.
Huckabee was ushered into the auditorium of Vidalia First Baptist Church to the thunder of the new VHA Drum Line under the Direction of Rev. Chester Proctor. Musical sections were performed by the VHA Choir and closing out the service was an old-fashioned sing-a-long accompanied by a VHA staff and parent band with special guest Huckabee picking up the bass guitar and strumming along.
