The Treutlen Vikings scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to defeat the Portal Panthers 18 – 8 at Bobby Driggers Stadium to pick up their first win of the season.  It was the Vikings fourth win in a row over the Panthers.

Treutlen scored on their first possession of the night when running back Qamar Jordan ran it in from 4 yards out for the touchdown.  The PAT attempt was blocked and the Vikings led 6 – 0 with 2:15 remaining in the first quarter.

Portal got their only touchdown of the night after capitalizing on a Viking interception.  Brady Mallard made a diving interception of a Viking pass at the Treutlen 26 yard line to set up great field position for the Panthers.  Portal then scored on a 2 yard run by Amir Jackson with 5:12 left before halftime.  The two point conversion was successful on a Tim Ortiz run and Portal held an 8 – 6 lead into halftime.

With 9:10 left in the contest, Viking QB Jordan Coney ran it in from two yards out to give the Vikings a 12 – 8 lead.  The 2 point conversion attempt was unsuccessful.

On the Vikings next possession, Coney was driving for a touchdown when a Panther defender stripped the ball from the Treutlen quarterback.  The fumbled traveled into the end zone where Treutlen receiver Kolby McLendon fell on it for a touchdown.  The PAT attempt was blocked and the Viking defense held on for the 18 – 8 victory.

Treutlen is now 1 -2 on the season and will travel to Wrightsville on Friday to face the Johnson County Trojans in a Region 4A contest.  Kickoff is set for 7:30 and can be heard on Sweet Onion Country 101.7 FM and online at www.southeastgeorgiatoday.com with Jeff Raiford and Nathan Lamb.
