The Central Office of the Toombs County Board of Education is now just that: centralized. Last Friday morning, a ribbon cutting was held at the new location of the Board Office on Bulldog Road in Lyons in a vacant wing of the Lyons Primary School.

Board of Education Chairman Clint Williams said renovating the unused resources significantly cut the cost of building a new facility, saving over $700,000 that the system could reinvest into the children of the school system.

“And that’s what it’s all about,” Williams said.

The Chairman said all four schools from the Primary School to the High School are now centrally located and added that later this summer, a bus barn and shop will be constructed nearby, putting all the school system’s operations close to one another.

School Superintendent Barry Waller said, “I like stepping out of my office now and being able to see the students at all the schools whether it be during school hours or after school activities. Our priorities really are the children as the Board Chair said.”

The former location of the Board of Education will be up for sale, and Williams said sealed bids will be taken for the next three weeks on the property.
