Ms. Johnnie Dorothy Connell Thigpen of Mt. Vernon died Thursday, May 07, 2020 at her home in Montgomery County.

Private graveside services will be held Saturday, May 9, 2020 at 11 AM in the Bazel Connell Family Cemetery in Montgomery County.  Her grandson, Reverend Jordan H. Thigpen and Reverend Owen Waters will officiate.

Ms. Thigpen, 95, was the daughter of the late Mitchell B. & Hattie Fountain Connell.  She was a lifelong resident of Montgomery County and a retired teacher with a Master’s Degree in Education.  During her over 30 years of teaching, she taught at a number of different schools in the surrounding area.  She was a lifelong member of Bear Creek Baptist Church, a Devoted Servant of God and she loved to minister to her caregivers.

Her husband, Hillery F. Thigpen, son, Mitchell Ray Connell and three brothers, Oscar, Austin & Allen Connell, all preceded her in death.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Johnny C. & Tammy Thigpen; daughter, Dorothy C. Hutchison; brother, Russell Connell, all of Mt. Vernon; sisters, Eva Coleman of Tarrytown and Flora B. Connell of Mt. Vernon; six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Higgs Funeral Home of Soperton has charge of arrangements.
