Mrs. Carolyn Williams Thigpen, age 85, of the Orianna Community of Soperton, Georgia passed away on Friday, October 27, 2023 in Augusta, Georgia.
Born in Wheeler County, she was one of four children born to the late John Charles Williams and Mary Lizzie Nesmith Williams. In 1952 she married, Treutlen County native, Edison Thigpen and they established their home in the Orianna Community. They lived in the citrus belt of Florida for a short time before returning to Orianna in 1960. Mrs. Thigpen had worked, as a Seamstress at the Soperton Shirt Factory, in the pressing department at Roydon Wear and as a Quality Control Inspector at Easter Seals before retiring, after forty three years, in 2007. Her husband had worked and retired as a Supervisor with Adrian Homes during the same tenure.
Mrs. Thigpen always enjoyed time with family and friends; whether it be visiting at each other’s homes or meeting at their longtime home church, Orianna Baptist Church, where her husband served as a Deacon.
In addition to her parents, Ms. Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband of sixty nine years, Edison Thigpen, who passed away in July of 2021, a brother, Charles Bobby Williams, who passed away in 2017 and a sister, Randi March, who passed away in July of 2023 and a son in law, Rufus Mixon, who passed away in 2019.
She leaves behind, her daughter, Deborah E. Mixon, Cochran, GA, her son, Billy Thigpen (Sarah), Luling, LA, her last living sibling, Virginia Coleman, Winter Haven, FL, grandchildren, Blaine Thigpen (Kristyn), Wesley Thigpen (Holly), Dawn Phillips (Mike), great grandchildren, Madilyn, Maddox, Emrie and August Edison, several nieces and nephews and special friends, Annette Shepherd, Bobbie Hussey, Marjorie Keen and Waydene Vandroe.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Orianna Baptist Church with Reverend Arthur Conley officiating.
Mrs. Thigpen will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Orianna Cemetery.
Her family will receive friends on Saturday, at the church, from 10:00 am until the hour of the service as well as throughout the afternoon, after the service on Saturday, at the family homeplace.
