obit Barnes

Mr. Bill S. Barnes, age 72, of Vidalia, died Sunday, June 25, 2023, at his home following an extended illness.  He was born October 5, 1950, in Homerville, and grew up in the Millwood Community in Ware County, to the late Thomas Haskell Barnes and Mary Belle Arnold Barnes.  He served two years in the U.S. Army and one tour of duty in Vietnam.  He retired after thirty-one years from the Southern Company as communication technician.  Mr. Barnes enjoyed excavating family land, radio operated airplanes and helicopters, and woodworking.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three sisters, Betty Barnes White, Bonnie Barnes Moore, and Katherine Barnes Graham; and one brother, Edward Barnes.

His family includes his wife of twenty-four years, Kay Wilson Barnes of Vidalia; three children, B.J. Brant and husband Hayne of Ailey, Thomas Barnes and Timmy Barnes, both of Lyons; one brother, Paul Barnes of Hazlehurst; seven grandchildren, Carson Lashley, Wesson Lashley, Layla Barnes, Logan Barnes, Anna White, Trey Brant, and Campbell Brant; and several nieces and nephews.

A private family celebration of life will be held later.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice Foundation, PO Box 2277, Vidalia, GA 30475, or the Auxiliary c/o Memorial Health Meadows Hospital, 1 Meadows Parkway, Vidalia, GA 30474.

The family would like to thank The Tommy & Shirley Strickland cancer Center, Carl Vinson VA Medical Center of Dublin, Memorial Health Meadows Hospital Emergency Room Staff, Radiology Department, Second Floor Nursing Staff, Amedisys Home Health, and staff and sitters of Community Hospice.
