Mrs. Mary Ellen Wilson, age 85, of Lyons, died Tuesday afternoon, February 27, 2024, at The Oaks Bethany Home in Vidalia, after an extended illness. She was a native of Toombs County and lived most of his life in Lyons. Mrs. Mary Ellen was a homemaker and member of Liberty Baptist Church where she sang in the choir for many years. In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, crossword and word search puzzles, and delighted in sharing her baked goods with family and friends. She especially loved her grandbabies and spending time with her family and friends. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-six years, James W. Wilson; parents, Carl Roscoe O’Neal and Edith Irene Smith O’Neal; two brothers, Roscoe O’Neal and Kenny O’Neal; one sister, Colleen Wood; one son-in-law, Bill Barnes; and a grandson, Anthony Lynn Wilson.
Her family includes five children, Ronnie Wilson and wife Ginger of Lyons, Debbie Wilson Maddox and husband Rodney of Snellville, Kay Wilson Barnes of Vidalia, Brenda Wilson Mills and husband James of Lyons, and Tim Wilson and wife Sue Ann of Marrietta; one brother, Harold O’Neal of Savannah; one sister, Patricia Bass of Savannah; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Clark and husband Tommy, Jeremy Wilson and wife Jamie, Katlyn Halterman and husband Travis, Brad Perkinson and wife Dana, Justin Hix, Grace Wilson, Hannah Wilson, and Cole Holiday; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The family will receive friends on Friday afternoon, March 1st at Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home from 1:00 until just prior to the service.
The funeral service will be Friday afternoon, March 1st at 2:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Michael Plowman officiating. A private family burial at Lakeview will follow.
