Vincent R. Drummer Funeral Home announces the death of Larry Johnson, age 66 of Vidalia, GA who entered Eternal Rest on Thursday, December 21, 2023. Larry, a native of Vidalia, Georgia, was born on September 22, 1957, to the late James C. Johnson and Annie Pearl Johnson.
Growing up, he was known in the family for being a very opinionated big brother who always could tell you what you needed to do. If he loved you, you went through the "school of hard knocks." He was a lion and a lamb all in one.
Larry attended Vidalia High School where he met many of his lifelong friends. He was also known for his natural football ability. He later graduated in 1975. He decided to enlist in the Army in 1977. Due to his God-given leadership qualities, he quickly moved up in rank. He served as a Sergeant First Class in the United States Armed Forces for 5 years. Larry retired from the military in 1992. He also did a brief stint with the Army National Guard in the early-mid 90’s.
His leadership qualities transcended beyond the army. In 1994, he started his own roofing company. For many years, he served Vidalia and surrounding counties with top quality roofs.
In 2006, he started a band that he named the Untouchables. He always enjoyed creating and using his gifts in many diverse ways.
Larry was married to Shelia Johnson on June 28, 1978. Larry and Shelia raised 3 beautiful children.
Larry leaves to cherish his memories his wife Shelia Johnson and three children: Nichola (Andre) Williams, Jacksonville, FL; Deidre Johnson, Vidalia, Georgia; and Larry Kevin (Jeanette) Johnson, Peachtree Corners, GA. Two sisters and four brothers: Frederick Johnson, Barbara (late Rev. Willie) Haynes, Thelma (late Robert) Brown, Ricky Johnson, Michael Johnson, and Gregory (Tammie)Johnson. He is survived by eight loving grandchildren: Tyra Page, Kyra Page, Denyria Toby, Johanna Johnson, Jocelyn Johnson, Larry Kevin Johnson Jr., Shamar Astin, and Jayla Johnson.
Public Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2023, from 5 PM until 7 PM at Vincent R. Drummer Funeral Home in Lyon, GA.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023 at 11:00 AM from the Sanctuary of Harvest Time Faith Center in Vidalia, GA. Bishop Bernard and Valentina Hill is the Pastors. Rev. Frank Williams will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow in Eternal Glory Gardens in Vidalia, GA.
