Dr. Joe Smith Moses, Jr. “Jody”, of Cumming, GA, died Thursday, June 8, 2023 at his home following a long battle with cancer. He was seventeen days shy of his seventy fifth birthday.
Jody was born and raised in Vidalia, Georgia. He attended Vidalia city schools, and was an honor graduate of Vidalia High School in 1966. During his years at Vidalia High, he was on the tennis team, in the band, and was the Student Council President his senior year. He was also the life guard at the Vidalia Recreation Dept. pool, a job that he loved and allowed him to have a positive impact on the lives of many young people growing up in Vidalia. After high school he attended and graduated from Emory at Oxford, Emory University, and Emory University Dental School with a DDS degree. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force where he was a Dental Surgeon for three years. After discharge from the Air Force he moved to Cumming, where he practiced Dentistry for over thirty years. He was very interested and active in civic affairs, serving on the Planning and Zoning Board from 2009-2013.
Survivors include his daughters Lindsey and Suzanne, his beloved grandson Johannes, his mentor of many years Ed Smith, and many cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Smith Moses, Sr., his mother Grace Elliott Moses, and his sister Barbara Moses.
A memorial service for Jody was held at Lanier United Methodist in Cumming on August 5th, at 11:30 a.m.
A memorial graveside service will be Saturday morning, August 19th, at 11:30 at Pine Crest Cemetery in Vidalia.
