Governor Brian Kemp rescinded an executive order Tuesday amending the State of Emergency for Georgia wildfires. On April 22, he had declared 91 counties under the order and that has now reduced it to 17 counties including Appling, Jeff Davis counties in this area and as well as the counties of Atkinson, Bacon, Berrien, Brantley, Camden, Charlton, Clinch, Coffee, Echols, Glynn, Lanier, Lowndes, Pierce, Ware, and Wayne.
However, that doesn’t mean cities have lifted their burn bans, including the City of Vidalia where City Manager Josh Beck confirmed Wednesday that the burn ban remains mandatory until determined otherwise. Beck said possible weekend rains will determine if, and when, the City of Vidalia's ban may be lifted.
Before any outdoor burning, you are encouraged to check with your local governmental authorities to check the status of burn bans in your immediate area.
