MOUNT VERNON — Brewton-Parker College (BPC) has received a strong vote of confidence from the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) following the completion of its Continuing Program Review. The college’s educator preparation programs were found to have no areas needing improvement—a notable distinction amid a challenging review cycle that saw many institutions across the state flagged for compliance concerns.
“This is a remarkable affirmation of the work being done by our Education faculty,” said Dr. Beverly Faircloth, Chair of the Division of Education, Behavioral Sciences, and Humanities. “For our programs to pass without a single required improvement speaks volumes about the quality, rigor, and heart behind what we do. Reports like ours are rare, even among many larger institutions with significantly more resources. We are proud to be leading the way in preparing excellent, Christ-centered educators for Georgia’s classrooms. We were especially honored to receive a commendation for our recruitment efforts, which have led to a 457% increase in enrollment between Fall 2022 and Fall 2025.”
The GaPSC is the certifying body that oversees educator preparation across the state. Their review process evaluates institutional performance across key indicators, including curriculum design, field experience, candidate performance, and alignment with Georgia’s standards for teacher certification. The positive review affirms that BPC not only meets but exceeds state expectations.
Dr. Justin Russell, Provost, added, “We’re deeply encouraged by this report. It validates the tireless commitment of our faculty and staff to both academic excellence and biblical integration. It also reinforces the trust that local school systems, our students, and their families place in Brewton-Parker to develop teachers who are prepared to lead with both competence and conviction.”
BPC President Dr. Steve Echols commented, “Our teacher education program is one of the most effective ways that BPC serves our community. Many of our education students come from places outside our region, but they stay after graduation to teach in this area. The stellar results from the PSC review is a testimony to the outstanding professors we have in our education department and their dedication to excellence.”
BPC’s teacher education programs continue to grow in enrollment and reputation, with recent programmatic expansions including an upcoming Master of Education in Teaching and Learning, approved to launch in Fall 2025.
