Rev. Ronald Miller, Newly-Elected Vidalia City Councilman, District 3
Voter turnout for Tuesday’s election was extremely low, with only a total of 396 of the 16,678 registered voters in Toombs County casting ballots. That equates to a turnout of just 2.37 percent voting.
But Toombs County wasn’t alone. According to statewide figures, in, the primary to elect candidates for the November election for Georgia Public Service Commission in Districts 2 and 3, a show of apathy in the election was evident. However, when the votes were reported Tuesday night the figures support that Republican Incumbent Tim Echols will represent District 2 in November against Democrat Alicia M. Johnson.
In District 3, a runoff between Keisha Sean Waites and Peter Hubbard will determine which Democrat will face Fitz Johnson who ran opposed in the general election.
The general election for Public Service Commission will be held on November 4.
In District 3 in the City of Vidalia, a special election was held Tuesday to fill the unexpired term of the late John Raymond Turner. Only voters in that district could vote, and 130 of the 160 who voted marked their ballot for Rev. Ronald Miller. Sharon Hall opposed Rev. Miller. As the newly elected Councilman, Rev. Miller will be given his Oath of Office prior to conducting any business at the July meeting of the Vidalia City Council on July 14.
In Wheeler County, a special election for tax commissioner was tacked onto Tuesday’s statewide primary and since no candidate received 50 percent of the vote, there will be a runoff between Curtis Hay and Whitney Clark Griffin. It was a close margin, however, with Hay receiving 302 votes to Griffin’s 293.
All numbers in Tuesday’s election are preliminary until certified by Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger’s Office.
