The two suspects involved in the standoff have now been arrested by Wheeler County deputies and are in custody.
WMAZ news in Macon is reporting that Wheeler County Sheriff Greg Giles says the suspects were in an armed standoff with law enforcement behind Cravey & Sons near Magnolia Street.
SAFETY ALERT
Earlier today, Laurens County deputies attempted to stop a stolen vehicle carrying armed suspects. The suspects opened fire on deputies during the pursuit and eventually crashed in McRae, near the intersection of U.S. 441 and Highway 280.
Multiple shots were fired at officers on the ground. At this time, two suspects remain at large and a heavy law enforcement presence is in the area conducting an active search.
Residents in the McRae and surrounding areas are urged to:
• Lock all doors and windows
• Do not leave keys in vehicles
• Stay indoors and remain vigilant
• Report any suspicious activity immediately by calling 911
