A Laurens County jury found two men guilty Tuesday afternoon in a drive by shooting last Easter that left two others dead. Prosecutors say Quintez Mercer was in the Money, Power, Loyalty gang when he saw a rival gang member and instructed Jaswain Bell and Kyndall Brazeal to shoot at the home as he drove by. Miyori Ellington and Sacred Brown died at the home.
Brazeal was not on trial with Bell and Mercer because he testified against Mercer and Bell.
Quintez Mercer was found guilty on all charges against him and was sentenced to two life sentences to run consecutively without parole, plus an additional 410 years.
Jaswain Bell was also found guilty on all charges and has requested a presentence investigation before his fate is decided.
Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr, who has been vocal about stopping gang activity in the state, said after the trial that the Laurens County jury sent a resounding message that gang activity will not be tolerated in Georgia, and his office will continue to work with law enforcement to combat violent crime wherever it occurs.
