Due to high fire danger conditions, including dry fuel sources, low humidity levels, and increased wind conditions, the City of Vidalia has issued an Open Burning Ban effective immediately.
The Open Burning Ban applies to all residents and businesses and prohibits the burning of:
● Yard waste
● Land clearing debris
● Other open-burning materials Permitted Burning Activities.
Outdoor grilling and small backyard fire pits are allowed, but only natural falling debris may be burned in fire pits.
Year-Round Illegal Burning Materials – Regardless of burn bans, the following materials are always prohibited from being burned:
● Plastics
● Metals & wire (for recycling purposes)
● Glass
● Tires & rubber
● Grease & asphalt products
● Liquid petroleum products & hazardous wastes
● Furniture & mattresses
● Building & demolition debris
● Animal wastes or carcasses Safety and Compliance
While open burning remains prohibited, residents are reminded to exercise caution and follow all fire safety measures. Fire pits and burn barrels are permitted, but only for burning naturally fallen debris. Any illegal burning will be subject to penalties, including fines and citations. The community's cooperation is essential in helping prevent uncontrolled fires and ensuring public safety.
