The Toombs County Grand Jury convened on Monday of this week and returned 13 true bills of the 14 bills presented to them by Middle Judicial Circuit District Attorney Tripp Fitzner’s Office.
Of notable indictments was one against Jason Thomas Bauer. According to the indictment, Bauer was charged with one count of distribution of fentanyl and one count of felony murder, the latter charge of which the District Attorney says resulted in the death of Jordan Davis on February 6, 2024.
In the 12 other indictments, there are several individuals who were indicted on various charges of cruelty to children. In particular, two separate indictments bear the names of one man and one woman who have the same last name, with the witness in the case being the same minor child. In the case against the man, the witness told Grand Jurors that he maliciously kicked her in the torso area of her body. The indictment against the woman with the same last name, states that she repeatedly hit the victim who was under the age of 18 and brought her to the ground.
Another cruelty to children with an aggravated assault indictment, alleges that the man inflicted enough force on a minor child to cause a skull fracture which resulted in deprivation of the child’s brain plus enough force to affect the boy’s digestive system.
Other indictments included acts of family violence, aggravated assaults, rape, sexual assault against a child, forgery, exploitation of an elderly person 65 years of age or older by punching her in her stomach, aggravated stalking, and burglary.
Indictments are a matter of public record but does not mean that those named in them have been convicted of the crimes for which they are accused.
