Two area law enforcement agencies made recent arrests of wanted suspects.
Sunday night, Candler County deputies encountered a suspicious vehicle on Highway 121 south of I-16 where they found a passenger underneath the vehicle. Further checks revealed that the vehicle was unregistered and the passenger had outstanding arrest warrants from North Dakota and Texas. The individual is currently in the Candler County Jail awaiting extradition.
And the Evans County Sheriff’s Office assisted U.S. Marshals on January 25 in the apprehension of a wanted fugitive from North Carolina. The Evans County Sheriff’s Office Response Team and Criminal Investigation Division helped with the arrest of 56-year-old Marvin Smith at the Relax Inn, room 21.
He was taken into custody without incident on warrants from Cumberland County, North Carolina for first degree murder. Smith’s extradition back to North Carolina is pending.
