Vidalia Mayor Doug Roper issued the following comment Monday morning regarding the removal of debris from Hurricane Helene:
"Since the arrival of Looks Great Services in late September, over 2.5 million cubic yards of debris have been removed from our right of ways. As we continue this important work, we have reached the point of setting a critical deadline for all debris to be placed in the right of ways. The deadline for debris placement in the right of ways is March 15th. While this is a final deadline, we encourage residents to move any debris to the right of way as soon as possible.A few points to remember as you prepare for the March 15th deadline: (1) Please do not block the road with debris piles. We've seen incidents where protruding limbs have caused damage to vehicles. Be mindful not to impede the roadway when placing debris piles as Looks Great Services booms can reach 15 feet into the right of way (2) Keep debris piles separated. Please ensure vegetative debris is kept separate from non-vegetative debris such as construction and demolition materials. Mixed piles will not be picked up (3) Stumps are now part of the debris pickup. Be sure to have them to the right of way by the March 15th deadline as well.
There is still much work to do, but we wanted to give the community as much lead time on this deadline as possible. We appreciate everyone's continued support and patience through this entire process. Should there be any updates or changes to this schedule, we will immediately notify the community."
