The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is asking the public for any information they may have regarding a death investigation in Telfair County near Lumber City last week.

On November 11, just before noon, an angler discovered a body at a boat landing along the Ocmulgee River. The GBI was called in by Telfair Sheriff Sim Davidson to assist with the investigation.

The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Devin Jeter of Scottsdale GA. He had been reported missing by his family to the Atlanta Police Department on November 8.

Jeter was last known to be at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport in Atlanta on the night of November 7 where he rented a 2024 Jeep Compass with a Florida license plate. He was in the United States Navy and when he didn’t show up for work as scheduled, his coworkers noticed his family who reported him missing.

Jeter’s body was autopsied at the GBI Coastal Crime Lab and there were no apparent injuries, but investigators are awaiting further forensic tests to provide any conclusions as to the cause of his death and any pertinent information.

On Tuesday of this week, the Georgia State Patrol dive team located the Jeep Compass Jeter had rented in the Ocmulgee River, near where his body was discovered. Investigators found no visible damage to the vehicle.

Anyone with any information is urged to contact Special Agent in Charge Lindsey Wilkes at  the GBI regional investigative office in Eastman at 478-374-6988 or share tips anonymously on the GBI’s tip line at 1-800-597-8477.
