To the Citizens of Soperton, I have finally had a chance to take a break and tell you how incredibly proud I am to be your Mayor! The outpouring of support from our citizens who have volunteered, donated food water and more is nothing short of incredible. The resilience that our community has shown and the teamwork that has been demonstrated between the city, county, EMA and all first responses is unprecedented and far exceeds the expectations of us all.
Please continue to work together as we continue to navigate through this devastating time. I promise that we WILL come through this challenge stronger and even better than before.
Now, a couple of updates.
As some of you have seen, power has been restored in spots in the downtown area. Ga Power has assured me that linemen and contractors will be in town Tuesday morning to begin the process of rebuilding lines and restoring power. With that in mind, please use caution around the areas they are working and allow them access. Also please do not ask questions about when your power will be restored as these men will not have the answers. They will be from out of town and most will be from out of state. They are here to do a job, so please allow them the space to complete it and get everyone's power restored.
Also we are in need of volunteers to help man many areas of this relief process. If you can give of your time, handing out food, taking donations and such, please go by the 4H Office on 3rd Street and sign up to volunteer.
Finally let me say thank you to all of our EMA, Law Enforcement and Volunteer Firemen who have worked tirelessly to get roads and streets open, removed trees from homes to allow residents to get out and protected us. Also a special thanks to our EMA Director Justin McNure and his staff for coordinating this effort. Your leadership is that of a seasoned veteran and I am so Thankful that you are in charge of our EMA. I am also thankful to all of our City and County workers including clerks, bookkeepers, and others who have been busy our sides non stop since we began this journey 4 days ago. Please remember that we are not even close to the end of this journey, so stay strong, stay together and continue to pray for myself, the Council, County Commissioners and others in Leadership positions that God would continue to grant us and all the workers who continue work long hours without much sleep, the strength to continue to lead and make solid decisions.
