Dear Vidalia City Schools Families, Students, and Community
I hope this message reaches you safely, knowing many of us are dealing with significant challenges due to the recent weather disaster and ongoing power outages. With the limited information and communication we have, please know that we are making the best decisions possible as we move forward. Our top priority is ensuring the safety and well-being of our families, and we fully understand that many of you may need to travel to places where power and water are available. Please do what is best for your family, and focus on staying safe during this time.
School Closure Update
At this time, we have decided that there will be no school this week. Fall Break was already scheduled to begin on Thursday, October 4th, through Tuesday, October 8th for students. If conditions allow, our tentative return date for staff is Tuesday, October 8th, for our scheduled professional learning day and students is Wednesday, October 09th.
If our facilities regain power before then, we will do everything possible to mobilize them to support community members who remain without power. As we continue to see progress, we will provide updates regarding any resources or support we can offer.
Athletics Update
For students participating in football, volleyball, cross country, softball, or competitive cheer, if conditions allow you to do so and you have the resources necessary to do so, we ask that you plan to meet your coaches at Vidalia High School at 10 AM on Wednesday morning at your usual practice locations. If there is power and water at the school, practice may proceed. If not, this will be an opportunity for you to gather, support one another, and connect with your coaches. This certainly is not a mandate but an opportunity for the teams to meet and move forward as conditions allow.
Please prioritize your family’s safety and well-being during this time, and know that we are here to support you in any way we can. If you and your family need any assistance while school is out, please feel free to email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., and I will do my best to connect you with resources available in our community.
May we all continue to be covered with safety, mercy, and blessings as we navigate this together. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and resilience.
