Jerry L Dawson

Mr. Jerry L. Dawson, age 76, of Vidalia, died peacefully at his home on Thursday, November 23, 2023, surrounded by his family.  He was a native of Smiths Station, Alabama and was a 1965 graduate of Smiths Station High School.  In 1966, Jerry started his career with Georgia Power, living in various cities in the south, before making Vidalia his home in 1976.  He retired from Edwin I. Hatch Plant in 1998 as Maintenance Supervisor.  Jerry was Baptist by faith, he was an avid bass fisherman and enjoyed spending time with his family.  He is preceded in death by his parents, James Lenard Dawson and Jessie Rae Cook Dawson; and a nephew, Mark Newton.

His family includes his wife of fifty-eight years, Linda Avery Dawson; two children, Theresa Dawson Burns and husband Gregory, and Keith Dawson and wife Kelly, all of Vidalia; one sister, Linda Newton of Cobbtown; six grandchildren, Ashley Dawson, Katie Dawson, Noah Dawson, Emily Martin, Gauge Martin, and AnnaBeth Martin; one sister-in-law, Jane Avery Childree, of Phenix City, Alabama; one brother-in-law, Terry Avery and wife Iris of Phenix City, one niece, Amy Newton Sikes and husband Don; two great-nieces, Shelby Sikes and Ella Newton; and great-nephew, Jackson Newton.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon, November 26th, from 1:00 until just prior the funeral service at 2:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Jonathan Shepard officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Community Hospice Foundation, PO Box 2277, Vidalia, GA 30475.
