Mr. Larry Smith, age 76, of Lyons, died Monday, November 20, 2023, at his home, following an extended illness. He was a lifelong resident of Toombs County, and a 1965 graduate of Toombs Central School. He was a United States Army veteran and served in Vietnam. He worked as letter carrier with Vidalia Post Office for several years, later with the Toombs County Road Department, and more recently at the Convenient Center near Lyons. He was a faithful advocate and witness, preaching the Word of God with the jail ministry, and he was often seen working for the Lord while preaching at the corner of Liberty Street and Victory Drive in Lyons. He was a true soldier in the Lord’s Army. He was member of Rocky Creek Baptist Church. Larry enjoyed vegetable gardening, and he blessed his family, friends, and the community with the bounty of his garden. He is preceded in death by his wife of forty-eight years, Cathy Lin Smith; and parents, Lloyd Smith and Katherine Webber Smith.
His family includes two children, David Smith of Lyons, and Sherry Smith Valliere and husband Patrick of Swainsboro; one sister, Linda Conley and husband William of the Marvin Yancey Community; one brother, Jimmy Smith and wife Wanda of Lyons; two nieces, Gayla Powell and husband Dustin, and Jennifer Rose Lin McCormack and husband Chris; one nephew, Ken Conley and wife Tammy; and one great-nephew, Kenneth Owen Conley and wife Meagan.
The family will receive friends at Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
The funeral service will be Wednesday afternoon, November 22, 2023, at 3:00 at Rocky Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Ricky Dyal officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
