The Lyons City Council held its October meeting last Tuesday night and in addition to this weekend’s annual festivities of the 14th The Real Squeal Barbecue and Music Festival, two other upcoming events were discussing including the 4th Annual Faith & Blue gathering this coming Monday night.
Chief of Police Wesley Walker said he encourages the community to join with law enforcement from around the area for an evening of singing, speakers, and simply coming together to unify the citizens of Lyons, Toombs County, and the surrounding area with those who serve and protect.
The Faith & Blue will begin at 6:00 p.m., and this year, it has been moved from The Pit where the Toombs County Bulldogs play football, to the Toombs County High School auditorium.
Another upcoming event in Lyons will be on October 20. Attallaka Williams reported that the June Teenth Committee will be holding a family night at Faison Park with a family-friendly movie and other children’s activities. The event is free and open to the public.
At the meeting, the City Council tentatively set the millage rate for 2024 with the rate remaining unchanged from 2023 at the rate of 3.89 mils. Three hearings will be held, however, for the public to voice their concerns with the Council regarding the budget before its final passage. Those hearings are set for October 10 at noon; and two on October 12: one at noon and one at 5:30. Following the last hearing, a special called meeting of the City Council will convene and officially approve the rate and approve the budget.
