Memorial Health Meadows Hospital in Vidalia celebrated a milestone Tuesday night acknowledging 60 years of service to the community. The hospital opened in 1963 as the Dr. John M Meadows Memorial Hospital and as a regional hub for healthcare, years later became Meadows Regional Medical Center. In 2021, HCA completed the purchase of the hospital, and the name was changed to what it is today.
The lobby of Memorial Health Meadows Hospital was filled with community members and supporters of the hospital as CEO Matt Hasbrouck thanked the leadership of more than six decades ago for having the wherewithal to establish a hospital.
“We are truly living our vision every day,” he said, “and that vision is to the care and improvement of human life – not just patient lives, but human life. Over 60 years ago, people in this community came together with a vision to provide quality and compassionate care close to home. They understood that a community – not just to survive but to thrive – needs strong local healthcare. It is absolutely essential. I thank those who made this vision a reality.”

Echoing the CEO’s appreciation to the community on Tuesday night's program were Board Chair Anthony Miller; Dr. Karen McColl, Chief Medical Officer of Memorial Health Meadows Hospital; and Meadows Foundation Chair Mike Calhoun.
A special presentation was made to Dr. Ben Neely during the evening for his longtime service to the hospital and the people of the community.
