In a thrilling region clash, the Lady Dawgs edged out Pierce County with a narrow 5-4 region victory. Spearheading the offense, Casey Cantwell showcased her skill with three singles and a sacrifice bunt. Natalie Quintero contributed a single, reached base on an error, and took a walk. Shay Stringer complemented the team’s efforts with a single and a pair of walks.
On the defensive front, Stringer continued to demonstrate her prowess in the pitcher’s circle with seven strikeouts. Nora Grace Mercer notably contributed with two defensive outs and Emerson Powell contributed with a handful of defensive plays that helped secure the victory.
The game remained a tense stalemate until the bottom of the second, when Aniston Powell’s single ushered in the first run. Marishka Smith capitalized on an error to add another run for the Lady Dawgs. However, Pierce County wasn’t far behind, narrowing the gap to 2-1 with a single in the top of the fourth. Turning the tables, they seized a 4-2 lead in the fifth inning.
Undeterred, the Lady Dawgs mounted a comeback in the bottom of the fifth. A pair of doubles from Mercer and E. Powell respectively brought in a run each, and Cantwell’s single leveled the score at 4-4. The game’s climax unfolded in the seventh inning when A Powell’s clutch single sealed the deal, giving the Lady Dawgs their well-earned walk off victory.
