Gary Sikes

Mr. Gary Sikes, age 73, of Mt. Vernon, died Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at Memorial Health Hospital in Savannah after a brief illness.  He was a native of Tattnall County, growing up in Cobbtown before moving to Mt. Vernon in 1969.  He was a heavy equipment operator and was owner/operator of Sikes Land Clearing and Pond Building.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Vernon.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and working on tractors.  Mr. Sikes was always available to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, and never met a stranger.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Robbie Roan Sikes and Birdie Holland Sikes; and three brothers, Derrick Sikes, Melvin Sikes, and Roy Sikes.

His family includes his wife of fifty-four years, Dianne Williamson Sikes of Mt. Vernon; three children, Amy McCallum and husband Tim of Vidalia, Randy Sikes and wife Chasie, and William Sikes and wife Crystal, all of Ailey; eleven grandchildren, Kaitlyn Sikes, Emily Johnson, Kathryn McCallum, Hunter Sikes, Illyana Eason, Thomas Bridges, Haley Sikes, Cameron Bridges, Gracie Sikes, Macee Sikes, and Alice Sikes; two great-grandchildren, Asher Beasley and “TJ” Beasley; two sisters, Reba Padgett of Augusta, and Laverne Padgett and husband Jesse of Hephzibah; four sisters-in-law, Linda Moxley and husband Hyman, Gloria Helton and husband Gene, Judy Spell and husband Rodney, and “BJ” Smith and husband Truett; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Sunday afternoon, May 28th, at 3:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. Muriell Bell officiating.  Burial will follow at Sunlight Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Cobbtown.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 1:00 until just prior to the service.

The family extends their gratitude to the staff of Memorial Health Hospital and Compassus Hospice in Savannah for their care and compassion.
