COLUMBIA, S.C. – Brewton-Parker softball traveled to Columbia, South Carolina to take on Columbia in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon. 

The Lady Barons (11-9) took a pair of wins from the Koalas (12-14) winning 3-1 and 6-0 on the road. 

How It Happened | G1 – BPC 3, CC 1 

Despite opening the game with a pair of hits, the Lady barons were held scoreless in the opening inning. Columbia struck first in the bottom half of the inning, scoring a run with two hits to take an early advantage. 

Alyssa Usrey knocked out a three-run homer in the top of the third inning to give Brewton-Parker a 3-1 edge. BPC took advantage of a couple of errors from the Koalas but left three runners on base and holding the two-run edge for the remainder of the contest.

Both teams produced six hits each.

Usrey led with two hits and three RBIs followed by Cailyn Snellgrove’s two hits.

Laykin Brown secured her fifth win of the season, pitching all seven innings.

Brown gave up the lone earned run while striking four batters and walking one.

How It Happened | G2 – BPC 6, CC 0 

Brewton-Parker took a two-run lead in the first inning as BryAnn Pound connected for an RBI base hit followed by Kristi Peters scoring on a wild pitch. The Lady Barons added two additional scores in the top of the second inning, with Cayden Fleming and Ashley Wilson producing singles to kickstart the inning. 

With the bases loaded, Abbey Flowers recorded an RBI on a sacrifice flyout to push across Fleming for the 3-0 lead. Peters then barreled an RBI base hit through the left side to score Wilson for the four-run advantage. 

After a scoreless third inning, BPC notched a hit from Alexis Bradshaw followed up by an RBI single from Usrey to move to a 5-0 lead in the top half of the fourth inning. In the sixth, the Lady Barons tallied one final run with a leadoff single from Wilson and another RBI base hit from Usrey for the 6-0 lead.

Brewton-Parker held a 12-4 hit advantage with Usrey leading the way with a pair of this and a pair of RBIs.

Peters and Pound also notched two hits each with an RBI apiece while Wilson led with two hits and two runs

Peters picked up her third win of the season, tossing all seven innings and striking out three batters.
