Multiple calls regarding shootings in Vidalia Monday have police asking the public for assistance in identifying those involved.

The first call came in to dispatch around 10:42 am. regarding shots being fired on NE Main Street at Main Street Grocery. Officers responded and canvased the area but no suspects were located. A second call Monday morning came in from a citizen who advised that he had been traveling the area around the grocery store at that time when he heard the gunshots. He later  came to realize that his vehicle was damaged on the front driver side during the shooting.

Then around 1:50 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Washington Street and Fourth Avenue in reference to shots fired. Witnesses told officers that two vehicles were observed traveling eastbound on Fourth Avenue, and when the drivers turned onto Washington Street, the occupants in the vehicles began to exchange gunfire. Officers made contact with a female citizen who also advised officers that her vehicle had been damaged by gunfire on her front driver side just as the victim had reported in the morning incident.

Police have not made a connection between the two incidents and are treating each separately and on their own merit unless further investigation positively leads them to put the two together. As always, if you have any information on these shootings, you are asked to contact the Vidalia Police Department’s Investigative Services Division at 912-537-4123.
