An Atlanta woman who was a passenger in an SUV died Thursday afternoon in Toombs County as a result of an automobile accident that occurred around 12:27 when the vehicle she was in collided with a GMC pickup truck at the intersection of Ga. Hwy 292 and Ga. Hwy 86.
The truck was driven by 56-year-old Timothy Hayden of Vidalia, and the BMW SUV was driven by Robert Mitchell, 76, of Atlanta. Sue Mitchell, age 75, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Based on preliminary information, it appears that Hayden was traveling east on Ga. Hwy. 292 and the Mitchells were traveling east on Ga. Hwy 86 when Mitchell failed to yield at the intersection and traveled into Hayden’s lane causing Hayden’s truck to strike the SUV on the front passenger side area.
Robert Mitchell and Timothy Hayden were transported by EMS to Memorial Health Meadows Hospital in Vidalia with injuries that appeared to be non-life threatening.
Georgia State Patrol Post 18 of Reidsville is investigating the accident.
