Sherill Ann Kirkley

Mrs. Sherrill Ann “Sherry” Kirkley, age 58, passed the morning of November 23, 2022, after an extended battle with multiple myeloma.  She was a resident of Toombs County since the age of 9.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Bobby Englett and Grace Smith (Toole), and her daughter, Elizabeth Kirkley.  She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Gregg; son and daughter-in-law, Archie and Leigha Kirkley and grandson, Graylon; daughter and son-in-law, Natalie and Christopher Giddens; two brothers, Maurice and Michael; one sister, Kim; and two nephews, Bobby and Draven.

A dedicated wife, mother, teacher and friend with a passion for life, she sought to brighten the world around her and to better the lives of others.  Her true joy in life came from bringing happiness to her family, for whom her sacrifices were immeasurable.  She enjoyed cooking for and entertaining them as well as imparting her wisdom upon them, be it a simple recipe or an epiphany of life.  More than anything, she loved to see them smile.  Her calling in life was educating special needs children, whom she loved as if they were her own.  In her twenty-two years of service to the special needs children in her community within the Toombs County School System, she never gave up on a child, no matter the situation.  Sherry would retire due to her illness, but much like her favorite pet peacock, she was a vibrant and colorful woman who touched the hearts of all that knew her.  Beneath that colorful personality, she possessed a strength like no other. She used that strength to maintain a personality for the betterment of others, despite battling numerous chronic medical conditions for decades.  She was truly the embodiment of selflessness.

A memorial service will be Saturday afternoon, November 26th, at 3:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. hall Funeral Home with Archie Kirkley officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. until just prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Altamaha Bank, c/o “Sherry Kirkley Children’s Fund”, PO Box 489, Vidalia, GA 30475 for improvements and additions to the special needs playground at Lyons Primary School.
