GAFFNEY, S.C. – No. 13-ranked Brewton-Parker women’s wrestling traveled to Gaffney, South Carolina to compete in the first dual of the season against NCAA DII opponent Limestone (S.C.) on Tuesday night.
The Lady Barons (1-0) secured their first win of the season in a 31-13 defeat over the Saints (1-1).
Brewton-Parker opened the dual with three forfeits in the 101, 109, and 116 bouts. Elora Waterman, Gabriela Galvez, and Jamesa Robinson were credited with the forfeit wins to give BPC a 15-0 lead to start the dual.
At 123, Alesandra Burgos took down Caroline Schmitt in a 10-0 tech fall (1:27) to give the Lady Barons four additional points. Madisyn Blackburn followed with a 10-0 tech fall of her own (0:00) against Alyssa Garza in the 130-lb bout.
With a 23-0 lead in the dual, Hannah Mains pinned (1:53) Katelynn Neal in the 136 match to give the Saints their first five points of the dual. At 143, Clara Padua-Cruz secured a pin (1:23) on Sierra Hartfelder to move the score to 23-10.
Amalani Latu scored Limestone’s final points of the night with a 4-0 decision over Mel Mercado in the 155-lb bout to move the Saint’s team score to 13 points. At 170, Katelyn Lewis defeated Shelsy Renous with a pin (1:09) to give the Lady Barons a 28-13 lead. In the final bout of the night, India Page secured an 11-4 decision over Journey Land at 191 to seal the 31-13 victory over Limestone.
