Gloria Mize

Gloria Faye Mize, 57, died on the morning of Saturday, September 17, 2022, at her home in Lyons, Georgia, surrounded by her family.

Gloria was a long-time resident of Lyons and active in the community and her profession.  She was born in Vidalia, Georgia, grew up in Lyons, Georgia, and graduated from Robert Toombs Christian Academy in 1982.  She attended Georgia Southern University, followed by the West Georgia College (University of West Georgia) for a MBA.  She was an adjunct teacher at Southeastern Technical College in Vidalia, Georgia.  Gloria worked for 20 years at Plant Hatch in Baxley, Georgia, for Southern Company followed by 16 years working for Georgia Power in Atlanta, Georgia, supporting transmission, distribution, metro trouble services, work force planning capital budgeting, and systems operations in various capacities.  She was a past president of the Toombs County 4H Volunteer Leaders, past member of the Toombs County and Forest Park Toastmasters Chapters, past President of the RTCA Parents League, member of the RTCA Board of Directors, past President of the Lyons Garden Club, Garden Club of Georgia Blue Star Memorial Maker State Chair, 1999 Leadership Toombs class member, past Plant Hatch Chapter President for Citizens of Georgia Power, past State President for Citizens of Georgia Power, EMA Responder as a Radiological Monitor, past Co-chair and then Chair of the Plant Hatch Safety Committee, and Georgia Power Transmission Employee Council member.

She was preceded in death by her father (Nevel Wood Mize), her grandmother (Pency Viola Collins), and husband (Dale Enoch Callaway).  Family survivors include her daughter, Dr. Heather Wood Sheppard and 2 grandsons, Jasper Wood Sheppard Tillman and Conor Harvey Sheppard Tillman; sister, Brenda Ross, mother, LaBlanche Mize, nephew, Randall Ross, and Dionisio Pinero.

Visitation will be held on Saturday at Ronald V. Hall Funeral home at 310 North St W, Vidalia, Georgia, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. 

A graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., at Collins Chapel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Lyons with Elder Jerry Lightsey officiating.  A separate Life Celebration is planned for October at her Lyons home and will be announced later.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Guido Evangelistic Association, Metter, Georgia, Georgia 4H Club, Shriners Hospitals for Children, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee.
