8 19 22 Toombs Softball

Lyons, GA. – AUGUST 19, 2022

“Our girls battled tonight but we came up a little short. We had plenty of opportunities to scratch a run before it even went into extra innings.  We had 7 hits and we barreled up a bunch of other balls but they were right at their defenders. We will get back to work and get ready for our schedule next week.“

Coach Hayne Brant

The Toombs County Varsity Lady Dogs lost the lead late in a 2-1 defeat to Tattnall County on Thursday evening.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Tattnall County’s pitchers struck out nine, while Bulldog Shay stringer sat down seven.

Tattnall County took the lead early scoring their first run in the first inning, but the Lady Dogs settled in and kept the Warriors off the scoreboard for the next six innings.

The Lady Dogs finally evened things up at one in the bottom of the fifth inning when Kassidy Brantley drove in a run with a single up the middle. Unfortunately, the Lady Dogs couldn’t push any more runs across the plate, even though they had runners in scoring position.

Shay Stringer was in the pitcher’s circle and pitched very well for Toombs County. The left hander went eight innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out seven.

Toombs County racked up seven hits on the day.  Riley Lumley and Brantley each collected multiple hits for the Lady Dogs.  Lumley went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Toombs County Varsity Lady Dawgs in hits.
