Mr. Mikell “Big Mike” Byrd, age 44, of Lyons, died Monday, August 15, 2022, at Augusta University Medical Center after an extended illness. He was a native of Reidsville, attended Tattnall County High School and had lived in Lyons since 2015. He was a first responder, a volunteer firefighter with Toombs County Rural Fire Department and a firefighter with Vidalia Fire Department. He was a member of Carpenter’s Local #256, Mt. Horeb Masonic Lodge #114, X.L. Neal Consistory #358 and Solomon Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church where he served as Armor bearer. He enjoyed fishing, singing, weight lifting and helping others. He is preceded in death by his father, Jonah Byrd.
His family includes his loving, devoted and loyal wife, Jamie Michelle Toby Byrd; five children, Morgan C. Flowers, Ethan M. Harrison, Dylan M. Shoemake, Erica M. Sapp and Adora “Sunny D” Brown, all of Lyons; his mother, Loretta Brown of Vidalia; five siblings, Loretta Lena Byrd of Seattle, Washington, Dinah S. Taylor and husband Shaft of Metter, Steven Byrd, Sr. and Sonya of Lyons, Jonah Byrd and wife Hilda of Florida and Tina Deloach and husband Chris of Statesboro; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends.
The funeral service will be Saturday morning, August 20th, at 11:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor J.W. Calvin, Jr., Elder James Toby and Mr. Johnny Moser officiating. Burial will follow at Sand Hill Cemetery in Reidsville.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 5:00 until 8:00.
