Alvina “Beanie” Chance, age 75 of the Rockledge Community passed away on Saturday morning, July 30, 2022 at Houston Medical Center in Warner Robins, Georgia.
Born in Laurens County, she was the youngest of three and the last living child born to the late Cecil and Inelle Spivey Chance. She grew up in Rockledge; graduating from East Laurens High School, Class of 1965, where she played basketball. After high school, she married Minter native, Willie Clements. In the 1980s, she attended Brenau College in Gainesville, Georgia where she earned her Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice. Beanie accepted a position as a Probation Officer with the State of Georgia Department of Corrections; working in Laurens and Hart counties until retiring in the early 2000s.
She was passionate about Duke Blue Devil basketball and watched every game. She always looked forward to the holidays because she knew the whole family would be at her house. Beanie was a wonderful cook, especially her Kentucky Derby pie; enjoyed fishing, crafts, gardening, cooking and attending local dirt track races. She didn’t mind spoiling her grandchildren; letting them sit on pillows to see over the steering wheel of Papa’s old truck, as they learned to drive on the roads of Rockledge, while she told them stories of yesteryear. In addition to spoiling her grandchildren she taught them practical life skills like crocheting, sewing, cooking and how to plant and grow a garden.
She was a member of the Wilkes Church of the Nazarene.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by an infant brother, James R. Chance, her sister, Donnie Chance McDaniel and daughter, Sandra Clements.
Beanie leaves behind a daughter, Marsha Clements Meadows (Jay), Mt. Airy, NC, grandchildren, John Riley Williams, Athens, GA, Madison Williams Peterson (Tyler), Adrian, GA, Morgan Elizabeth Meadows, Greensboro, NC, Marleigh Christin Meadows, Greenville, NC, Mercer Jayden Meadows, Mt. Airy, NC, great grandchildren, Cohen Wayne Peterson, Amelia Leigh Peterson, Addison Brooke Peterson along with special cousins, nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 noon, on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at the Wilkes Church of the Nazarene in Rockledge with Pastor Al Soles officiating.
Her family will receive friends on Wednesday, at the church, from 11:00 am until the hour of service.
